Coyotes are considered a Varmint in most states , For which I am thankful, No season ! Open all the time , Except Northen
Wisconsin during gun season , I think. I will verify that later .
I need to go no further than my backyard for a stalk and shoot worthy of any hunter . I have to tell you the Coyotes
I have around me are Hybrids in a sense , they have interbred with wild dogs , Meaning two things , Size is increased
Dramaticly , by over 50% , making them stronger , and they have little fear of man , making them Dangerous
.
Normally a coyote would cut and run , not so here , these animals will attack you , your children , and your pets . More
often its your pets , any easy meal for these opportunists.
I have been stalking the pack as far as 2 miles toward lake michigan from my home . I actually stumbled on to the trail
after cleaning up my yard . I found some Sweet deer tracks , and decided to track ,maybe see where they bed down , No luck
,but I did find spoor ,dog like but different gait , and a spread of 1 ft . and ALOT of them , no more than a few hours old
, I had my cascade Golden hawk close by , Grabbed it and my quiver, and off I went . I went a few hours saw NOTHING , so I
started back home , when I am 20 yrds from my door , there they are I never would have seen them either from any other angle
they were in cover under really nasty thorn bush, grows like wildfire out here . I thought I was seeing things , they were
alot bigger than any I hunted in California , or Nevada . I was able to Nock and Loose an arrow before they scattered
, was not a good shot but the coyote made it no more than 5 yards , Now remember that thorny bush I spoke of , yeah that was
fun trying to get in to get the coyote out , the pathways were only big enough for a coyote to get through ! I am a little
on the heavy side , No way I can fit and not get a thorn somewhere , I grabbed my pruners I carry hunting for clearing a lane
, took forever , but I got in and got the coyote out , weighed 65 # dressed .
I have had many such adventures ever since
These guys are pretty prolific , I have never seen less 8 sets of tracks per pack , there are 3 packs that overlap
in territory , thats at least 24 in a 2 sq mile range.
Thats alot of quarry and so little daylight .
I will be taking a camera with me the next outing and post them here for you to see .
Till then May Your arrows fly Swiftly and your Aim be true !
